Jacob started his peanut desensitization today and did GREAT. Scott took him. They had to be at the hospital at 7:30 to start "oral injections" and he was given a new dose every fifteen minutes. He said it tasted like Kool-Aid so it wasn't bad at all. It is VERY detailed the way it is given. When you fill the syringe you have to wipe off all the extra medicine that gets on the outside of the syringe so that he doesn't get too much at one time. He can't exercise for two hours after a dose and can't sleep for at least one hour. He will take a dose twice a day at home 9-12 hours apart and we will go back next Thursday and they will "up" his dose and we will start the process all over again!!! We have a long road to eating a peanut butter sandwich, but we are all excited for him to be treated "normal" at school. His biggest goal is to be able to sit with the "normal" kids at lunch and not at the peanut table!!!
After his four hours at the hospital we joined his class for their field trip. He missed going to the Waukee ice cream shop and library but was able to go to the fire station, police station and park so he was all smiles!!!
