Can you believe it? Yes... she broke her arm yet again. We were at gymnastics last night and I saw her teacher carrying her to me with a look of fear in her eyes, and I instantly knew what had happened. I've seen this before. The way she holds her arm and the look on her face, has been the same each and every time. She was attempting to do "duck walks" on the balance beam (whatever that is???) ... and she fell. We've all heard the statement that you'll know when it is broken. Take my word, that is a correct statement. The arm was hanging in the wrong position and looked like it had a huge dip in it. I rushed her to the ER and Scott met us there. She had eaten pretzel sticks for a snack at the mall at 4:00 before gymnastics started, so we had to wait until 10 to go in for surgery to realign her arm. You have to be six hours on an empty stomach. The poor kid was so hungry. She watched two movies and was quite a little trooper. She knows the routine too well now. We get to the ER, they see the fear in her eyes and skip asking questions and get us into a room. The look on the other people in the waiting room is sad. They want to get back just as fast as us. Before you know it twelve staff are standing around hooking her up to machines and giving her morphine. They ask a million questions to try to figure out what happened. The morphine sure works quick and she gets comfortable VERY quickly. Surgery to realign her arm started at 10 and we were home by 11:30. She has a temporary cast on for a week to help with swelling and will be put in her "real" cast next Wednesday. It is REALLY swollen today, so we have been giving her lots of medicine and ice. She crashed into bed tonight at 6:45. I'm sure she'll sleep well.
Her regular doctor called tonight and is going to call a specialist tomorrow morning to try to get us in to look at her bone density. She drinks TONS of milk, takes her vitamins every morning, but for some reason she is breaking things too easily. Her doctor said their rule is three strikes and you're out. So... we'll keep you all posted on what we find out. She is obviously out of soccer for the rest of the season and her favorite thing in the whole world, swimming, is over as well. Her cast goes to her armpit... so my life is changing a bit for the next few months. She is limited on what she can do by herself. Just when I thought life was getting easy. The joys of motherhood, right!!! A VERY special thanks to my dear friends, Meg Carlson and Meg Kring for their help with Emily and Jake last night.
Hugs to you all, Allison
