2012 Christmas Letter

Seasons Greetings from the Hamlings.  What a year it has been!!!  2012 has brought lots of excitement to our family.  In a few short weeks we will be moving one block into a new house.  Yes, you read correctly.  We are moving one block!  It might sound crazy but it is a perfect move for us and gives us a little more space for our growing family.

Anna is ten and is maturing rapidly.  She has the best sense of humor and makes us laugh every day.  She is in her last year of elementary school and is super excited to be in middle school next year.  She continues to swim all year round and loves every minute she is in the pool.  She started taking piano this year and has picked it up really fast.  We enjoy listening to her play each day.  We almost made it through the year without a broken bone but found out last week that she broke her foot.  That makes five broken arms and one broken foot.  The doctors keep telling me she is just active!  Seems a little strange, don’t you think?  We are strongly considering wrapping her in bubble wrap!

Emily is eight and in third grade.  She is still very sensitive and caring but is coming out of her shell this year and was able to stand up in front of her class and give a speech which caused her to pass out two years ago.   She loves school, swimming on the swim team, and has started taking piano with Anna.  Emily is super excited to move into the new house because she is going to room with Molly.  Emily LOVES younger kids and just adores playing with Molly.  They will make great roommates.  This summer was super exciting for Emily as she learned to water ski before her older sister!  Anna picked it up one week later and was skiing all over the lake, but Emily was super proud to be the first one up in the family.

Jake is seven and in first grade.  The highlight of his year is that he is now eating PEANUTS!!  He spent six months going through a desensitization program with his allergist and can now be safe around all foods.  The biggest change for him was that he can sit with his friends at lunch and attend birthday parties without his parents.  His story was featured on the local news which was fun for him and our family.  He joined the swim team this year and loves going to the meets mostly because he gets to play games with his friends in-between events.  He still loves Legos and can spend hours building in the basement.

Molly is eighteen months and growing by the day.  Just like her older siblings, she LOVES to eat.  She will try about anything and is constantly sneaking things out of the pantry.  She certainly has a mind of her own, and her two favorite words are “mine” and “no”.  She is spoiled by the older kids, and they give her everything she wants.  Molly and I attend a music and play class each week which helps her learn to interact with kids her own age.  She makes us laugh each day, and we can’t imagine our lives without our sweet Molly.

Scott and I keep busy as well.  We spent nearly every weekend at Spirit Lake  this summer which was great family bonding time.  In September we went to Disneyland with my entire extended family for a week and had a blast!!  We are excited for the move and anxious for the day when we can sit at night and not think about packing and unpacking.    This year Scott and a few of his buddies started a band, and they have their first “gig” on January 26th.  He plays the drums, and when Molly is asked what Daddy does, she loves to say, “Boom Boom.”  I continue to volunteer as much as I can at the elementary school.  Scott loves to call me the “Home Manager” and most days I feel like all I do is manage everything around me!!  I wouldn’t want it any other way.

We wish you all a blessed holiday season and a Happy New Year.
